WELCOME
Thank you for visiting the Loma Linda University EM Residency Program page. We are a 36-month training program established in 1984 with over 300 graduates. Loma Linda is located in sunny Southern California and is close to numerous activities and attractions. Residents train at Loma Linda University Medical Center, Loma Linda University Children's Hospital, Riverside University Health System Medical Center, and St. Bernadine's Medical Center. Training at both an academic, tertiary care referral center and a county hospital (RUHS) prepares our graduates exceptionally well to be able to treat any patient, at any time, under any circumstance. Loma Linda University is committed to Whole Person Care, and the residency values that commitment to our patients and our residents.
Residents learn from leaders in medical education at LLUEM. We train residents to become excellent emergency physicians using state-of-the-art educational techniques such as simulation-based learning and small group sessions. Our educators are energetic and innovative; check out some of our work recently recognized on ALiEM. LLUEM is the only EM residency with a medical education (MedEd) rotation. This rotation allows our senior residents the opportunity to learn how to teach from our expert educators and hone those skills with a wide range of learners. Residents also enjoy an outlet for creativity by completing a MedEd project at the end of the rotation. Some of our residents’ projects can be seen at http://thegurneyroom.org.
At LLUEM, people are our highest priority. We believe all people deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. Our patients deserve our best and we train our residents to advocate for their patients’ best interests. Our Diversity & Inclusion Committee is partnering with the LLU School of Medicine to address health disparities and improve pipeline programs to medical professions for underrepresented minorities in our local community. We strive to provide the best possible care to our patients and believe recruiting a diverse group of residents that are passionate about issues facing our local community and representative of the patient population we serve, is vitally important to that goal. Check out our Diversity & Inclusion Committee.
Physician wellness is emphasized in our residency as foundational to quality patient care. Learning about wellness is important, but there is no substitute for practice. Our Wellness Chief Resident works with our Wellness Committee to incorporate resident well-being in fun, innovative ways. Whether it’s Halloween costume journal clubs, intramural sports with attendings, hikes with your friends, or a day away from work at our annual retreat, wellness is a part of our culture. In addition, we support our residents with Family Groups. Family Groups are an innovative approach to mentorship at LLUEM consisting of 2 faculty “parents” and 1 resident from each level of training. Partnering with our residents to provide the tools for physician well-being is an important part of how we train excellent emergency physicians at LLUEM.
Thank you for taking the time to visit our website. Please reach out to us if we can answer any of your questions. We look forward to meeting you.
Sincerely,
Mike Kiemeney, MD
