GENERAL INFORMATION
For those interested in applying for a residency position, applications should be submitted through ResidencyCAS. We accept applications for PGY-1 positions only. Positions are filled through the NRMP. All applications are screened according to selection criteria. Applications submitted after initial interview offers will be reviewed as time permits.

SELECTION CRITERIA
Applicants are selected to interview who align with the mission of LLUEM and LLUH as an institution. We place a high priority on individuals who possess the characteristics and skills of emotional intelligence, teamwork, selflessness, integrity, professionalism, compassion, empathy and critical thinking. Traditional markers of academic success are used for application screening but do not play a prominent role in applicant selection for interviews or applicant ranking.

ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must provide a medical degree from an LCME or AOA accredited school or international school recognized by California Medical Board prior to beginning residency.

To be considered for an interview please provide:
  • A complete ResidencyCAS application
  • 2 SLOEs are required, (2 SLOEs preferred but the 2nd can be provided after the interview) total of 3 LORs required
  • A passing score on USMLE Step 1 or COMLEX Step 1
  • Passing score on USMLE 2/COMLEX 2 is required before Rank Order List certification
  • Osteopathic applicants are not required to take USMLE 1 or 2 for interview or rank list consideration

INTERVIEW OFFERS
The first round of interviews are anticipated to be offered mid-October. Interviews are offered on a rolling basis throughout the interview season. Interviews will be offered and scheduled through ResidencyCAS. We do not “overbook” interview spaces. We only send enough interview offers to fill the spaces we have. Preference signals and geographic connections are factored into our decisions. We have more qualified applicants than interview positions each year. As more positions become available, additional interview positions will be offered throughout interview season.

INTERVIEWS
Interviews are conducted virtually from late October through January on select Mondays, Tuesday, and Thursdays. “Virtual socials” with our residents are held near the day of your interview.

SECOND LOOKS
Second looks will be held in Loma Linda in February after the residency’s Rank Order List is certified. These are optional and do not impact an interviewee’s position on our rank list.
Please contact us if you are interviewing with us this year and would like to visit LLUEM while you are in the area at any point during interview season.
